Gettysburg
Our class visited Gettysburg, the site of the Civil
War battle in 1863. Lee's Confederate Army was turned back from its incursion
into Pennsylvania.

The river flows through a water gap in the ridge. Harrisburg lies on the
main transportation route of the Great Valley, the first valley in Pennsylvania's
Ridge and Valley Region.

At the time of the Civil War, Gettysburg was strategically located at the
terminus of a railroad.
It was the center of the region with many roads radiating out from the town.
Along McPherson's Ridge, where the fighting took
place the first day of the battle.
