Descendants of Robert Baker of Edgmond

 

Generation No. 1


1. ROBERT BAKER was probably the same Robert Baker who was baptised June 17, 1611, Newport, Shropshire, son of Robert and Ann Baker. Recent (Oct. 12, 2000) research in Shropshire by Edward Sinker shows that in the Newport Church Registers, there is a Robert Baker baptised December 4, 1606, but that child was buried January 20, 1606/07. So if this family is that of our Robert, he must be the one baptised 1611. Robert died April 25, 1672 in Edgmond, Shropshire, England. He is interred Edgmond Manor's burying ground. He married MARY _____ . Note: Because Robert's will mentions two daughters Mary "the older" and Mary "the younger," in his WILL, it is possible that these children are by two different wives. There is evidence that Joseph, Hannah, Sarah and Mary are definitely the children of Mary.

iv. ELIZABETH BAKER , b. est bef. 1651 Mentioned in Robert Baker's will. Did not emigrate.
v.. MARGARETT BAKER , b. est. bef. 1651. Mentioned in Robert Baker's will. Did not emigrate.
2. vi. JOHN BAKER , b. est. 1648-1650; d. 1685 in Philadelphia. Married DOROTHY _____.
vii. THOMAS BAKER , b. est. bef. 1650. Did not emigrate. Mentioned in Robert Baker's will- According to the will "hath not natural abilities" to manage his property.
3. viii. JOSEPH BAKER, SR. , b. est.1650-1660, Edgemont, Shropshire England. Emigrated 1684; d. 1716.
4. viiii. HANNAH BAKER , b. est 1660-1664; d. 1719, Willistown Twp. m. FRANCIS YARNALL 1686.
5. xi. MARY BAKER, "The Younger." b about 1666; d bef 1721. Married WILLIAM COEBURN, 1686
6. ix.SARAH BAKER , b. about 1667 d. Bef. 1698; m. CHARLES WHITAKER, May 1687.


Members of Robert's family who emigrated to Pennsylvania in 1684 are: brothers John and Joseph (Sr, "the Uncle"), sisters Hannah, Mary & Sarah and a nephew, Joseph Jr. who married Martha Woodward. This is not the same person as Joseph Jr. the son of Joseph Sr. who married Mary Worrilow.

2. JOHN BAKER ( ROBERT 1) was born est. 1648-1650, emigrated 1684, and died 1685 in Philadelphia, Pennnsylvania.. He married DOROTHY _____.

3. JOSEPH BAKER, SR. (ROBERT 1) was born about 1656 (estimated from when he first appeared on tax records) in Edgemond, Shropshire England. Emigrated 1684 and died 1716 in Edgmont Twp, Chester (now Delaware) Co. PA. He married MARY_____ bef. 1681 in England.

4. HANNAH BAKER (ROBERT 1) was born 1660-1664. and died 1719 in Willistown Twp. She married FRANCIS YARNALL of Middletown on August 04, 1686 (6mo) at Chester MH.

5. MARY BAKER (ROBERT 1) "The Younger." b about 1666; d bef 1721. Married WILLIAM COEBURN, 1686 . See Descendants of Mary Baker & William Coeburn.

6. SARAH BAKER (ROBERT 1) b. about 1667 d. Bef. 1698; m. CHARLES WHITAKER, May 1687. See Descendants of Sarah Baker and Charles Whitacre.


9. JOSEPH BAKER JR. (THE NEPHEW). His father is unknown, but may be THOMAS 2, PETER 2, or ROBERT 2 (ROBERT 1). He was born 1mo, 1, 1674 probably in Shropshire, England and died Jan. 17, 1735/36; probably in Edgmont Twp, Chester (now Delaware) Co PA & buried at Middletown. He married in 1698 MARTHA WOODWARD, daughter of RICHARD and JANE WOODWARD of Middletown. MARTHA was born 12mo, 31, 1676, and died December 13, 1775, aged 98 years, 11 months and 13 days.
