This information was prepared by Anne Broomall Wiegle.
David was apparently not a Quaker, and we are lacking primary birth
records. Data is obtained from Wills, tax and census records, church records,
court records, and deeds. This line is still being researched.
4. DAVID BROOMALL
(JOHN2, JOHN1)
was born before 1730, and died Aft. 1795. He married MARY TAYLOR on December 27, 1752 at
Old Swede's Church, Wilmington DE. He was a carpenter and lived from 1765
to 1780 in Nether Providence Twp, where he was a landowner; and after that
in Chester Twp, Chester (now Del) Co. PA. His wife Mary must have died sometime
before 1767, for in that year he is listed on the tax roll as a single man.
Children of DAVID BROOMALL and
MARY TAYLOR are:
16. i. DANIEL BROOMALL, b. about
1760; d. July 05, 1822.
17. ii. DAVID BROOMALL, b. about.
1765; d. 1854.
Possible Child of David:
iii. THOMAS BROOMALL b about 1760.
Appears in Upper Providence Twp, Chester (now Delaware) County PA in 1781,
with 1 cow. This is a different Thomas from Thomas,
the son of Kidnapped John, who is also on the Tax rolls in 1781 in Pennsbury
Twp, Chester Co, along with his brother Enos. THOMAS
appears on the muster Roll of The Chester Co Militia, 6th Co, 6th Btn, the
"Thornbury Co" in 1781. He moves around- in 1790 he is in Middletown
on both the census and tax rolls; 1792 & 93 in Upper Providence listed
as inmate (i.e. tenant). In 1794 he is on the Upper Chichester Tax rate;
and in 1800 he is back in Middletown, both on the Tax rate and the census.
He does not appear in 1810, so he may have moved or died. This THOMAS
is being researched and we may discover more.
16. DANIEL BROOMALL (DAVID3, JOHN2, JOHN1) was born about 1760, and died July 05, 1822. He married RACHEL MCCAY November 22, 1787 in 3rd Presbyterian Church Philadelphia PA. Daniel appears in the muster Rolls of the Chester County Militia 1779-1782 in the Thornbury Company, 6th Co 6th Btn. He was probably a carpenter like his father. He lived in Chester Twp 1790-1810. After that he is in Chester borough in 1820. His widow Rachel appears as head of household in Chester Borough in 1830. No children of Daniel and Rachel have been proven; however we did find the following:

**Here is some research done by John Gray: He writes: "Further research on this Mary Gray. I found her gravestone in Mt. Hope Cemetery (Methodist) in Aston, PA, It shows her name as Mary B Gray 1813 1882. Her daughter Mary Gray is also buried there, and another daughter, Martha Gray is buried there with her husband, Robert Cuskaden. Bother Robert Cuskaden and Marys son, Harry B Gray were both in the 88th PA Infantry. Researching the Chester Times online, I see that Mary Grays estate on Welsh Street was sold by the sheriff of Chester, and Marys husband Charles Gray, along with Doctor Samuel Starr, went to court to argue the estate was sold for less money than what they thought is was worth. The court case was D. Reese Esrey vs. Charles Gray and Samuel Starr. When Mary Gray was living with her father David Broomall in 1850 with John Esrey, Charles Gray was working as an engineer in Philadelphia at the Schuylkill Arsenal. Many facts are coincidental, but the birth date below for Mary Broomall marrying a Gray is about 1792 instead of 1813 (21 year difference)."[Question: could perhaps the Mary gray b. 1813 be a daughter of the mary b. 1792?] John continues: "While living in Chester, Mary shows a middle initial of T in the 1870 census. There are a couple of Taylor households next door and across the street from Mary and Charles Gray. I also see that David Broomalls (David, John, John) mother was Mary Taylor.I also visited Chester Rural Cemetery recently and have pictures of gravestones for Grays, Broomall, Taylor, and Esrey in close proximity of each other if anyone is interested."
