Notes of CARLA
KOVAL,
the granddaughter of LILLIAN LARSON:
I think that indicating the adoption is important. Mother always knew she
was adopted. My birth grandmother, Lillian, was living on her own in St.
Paul, MN working in a department store. Mother was born in a Lutheran Home
there on February 28, 1927. Lillian's father and mother
knew of the child Lillian gave birth to, but no one else in the family knew,
even right up until Lillian's death last year [1998]. Lillian decided to
give Mom up for adoption so my mother went to a foster home, where she stayed
for three years while Lillian tried to make up her mind. Mother was given
the name Beverly Mae Larson. Her adoptive parents were Joseph and Helen
Vachon. While Mother was living with Joseph and Helen, Lillian would come
and visit my mother. Mother knew who she was.
Back in 1982 mother decided to start looking for her birth mother, after
a year of research we discovered that Lillian had married and moved to Seattle,
Washington. She was living in our own back yard all those years. We called
her and arranged a meeting.
