Chichester Friend's Meeting was founded in 1683. They met in people's houses until James Brown, by deed of 10th month, 4, 1688, conveyed two acres of ground in Chichester for the use of Friends, upon which a Meeting House was built soon afterward. It was destroyed by fire 12th month 4, 1768. The Meeting House pictured, was rebuilt the following year, 1769.
This Meeting House was very near the farm which John Broomall (son of Daniel) bought in 1798 in Upper Chichester Township, Delaware Co. The land next to John's was farmed by John's nephew, Larkin R. Broomall, son of Nehemiah, John's brother. Both John and his nephew Larkin and their wives are buried here.
Nehemiah II, the son of Nehemiah I also worshiped and was buried here.
The graves of Nehemiah (1805-1875)& Elizabeth
(Thompson) (1817-1891) Broomall and their two children who died young, Nehemiah
(1847-1852) and Jesse, (1845-1852) are enclosed by the low iron rail on
the left of the picture.
Also in this cemetery are Larkin R. Broomall (1815-?) and his wife Ann (Brown) (1815-1889). Their daughter Caroline L. Broomall and her husband John A. Green are also buried there.
John Broomall (1760 - 1848) and his wife Sarah (Martin) (1777-1819) and their daughter Martha. (1812-1820) and their great grandaughter Reba,(1877-1878) the daughter of Charles A. son of George are buried here.
Another Broomall grave, which we have not identified, is that of Sarah T. Broomall b Nov. 24 1800 and died Nov. 4 1877. She may a daughter of Nehemiah I and sister of Larkin. Nehemiah had a daughter Sarah who could have been born at that time, but we have absolutely no information on her. If anyone knows who this Sarah T. Broomall is, please email me.
