Descendants of Jane Broomall & Aaron Thomson

Generation No.2

1. JANE 2 BROOMALL (JOHN 1 BROOMALL) was born probably between 1705-1713. She married August 25, 1729 in Chester at St Paul's Episcopal Church [JEAN] AARON THOMPSON, born about 1705, and died 1745.

JANE was possibly raised as a Quaker, however, she came under criticism in 1729, as follows : "she with her father, mother and sister had for some time past, desired to come under our Meeting [Providence?], but afterwards kept company with a young man, not of our Society, and contrary to her parents' consent, and since her father's death is married to him by a Priest, 7-29-1729". AARON THOMSON, apparently not of Quaker background, has been speculated to be either the son of RALPH THOMSON of Fallowfield, or the son of RICHARD and HANNAH THOMSON of Marple. On tax lists, Aaron is listed in Nether Providence in 1729, Marple in 1730 ; Nether Providence in 1732 ; Upper Providence in 1734, 1735, 1737 and 1739 and 1740. Aaron purchased 118 acres of land in 1739 in Upper Providence on Providence Road near Springfield Road. On March 1, 1740, Aaron Thompson took out a mortgage on that same 118 acres. Fifteen years after Aaron's death, the mortgage was satisfied 18 Apr 1759 by Francis Yarnall. As well as a tailor by trade, Aaron may have been an innkeeper or aspired to be one. He requested a tavern license for Upper Providence township 29 May 1739 and also 29 Aug 1744 at Chester County Court. Both petitions were refused. In his petitions, Aaron described his house as "located on the fforks of two great Roads, --one leading to Philadelphia, and the other from Chester to Newtown". Aaron THOMSON died in 1745, at about 38 years of age and is supposedly buried at Middletown Graveyard (now Delaware Co., PA). He wrote his will 9 Nov 1744 ; proved 31 May 1745 (Chester Co. Will book B, p. 182) He mentions "his Estate to be sold by Executors: brother Joshua Thomson and trusty friend William Malin ; my well-beloved wife Jane to have one-third ; remainder equally divided between sons Daniel and Joshua at age 21." His sons must be under the age of 14 at the time he writes the will because Aaron directs that "as each of them arrive at the age of fourteen years old, I would have them put out apprentice, at the appointment of my executors". The will is signed "Aaron Thomson" with a seal. His inventory dated June 4, 1745 includes "taylors tools ; four cows, two heffers, two calves, eleven sheep, 5 lambs, 16 hives of bees, nine swines,..one plantation containing 118 acres". His wife JANE BROOMALL THOMSON survived him ; whether she remarried is not known ; her deathdate is not known.

2. DANIEL 3 THOMSON (JANE 2 BROOMALL, JOHN 1 ) was born about 1731, and ; d. 29 April 1815, (in Bible records of his son John) buried at Middletown Graveyard (now Delaware Co., PA). He married ANN BAKER (possibly BACHER, or BUCHER) September 26, 1760 at Old Swedes Church (Gloria Dei) in Philadelphia. Ann's parentage is not known. Ann died 26 August 1832, aged 94, so she may have been born in 1738. According to the tax lists, they first settled in Upper Providence township on a farm of 42 acres, probably a portion of his father's land. Daniel petitioned for a tavern license in 1765 and obtained one for 1765-1768. By 1774 Daniel had moved to Thornbury township living on 100 acres. In the US Direct Tax of 1798, Daniel is listed as an occupant on 98 acres which belong to Daniel Trimble. DANIEL THOMSON participated in the Revolutionary War, in Thornbury Company Militia, Capt. Hugh Reed, in 1779 and several descendants have joined the DAR and SAR on his service. Daniel died intestate 29 Apr 1815, aged 84. Although Daniel was not a member, several of his children married practicing Quakers.
