It is not known who are the parents of William Penn Broomell. He first appears in the 1850 Federal Census, in Upper Oxford Township, Chester County, age 17, living in the household of Isaac Broomell II and his wife Rachel. Isaac is 36; Rachel is 26, too young to be his mother. Perhaps William is the son of an earlier wife, or perhaps he is adopted. If he is a cousin or nephew, we have no record or it.

1. WILLIAM PENN BROOMELL was born May 22, 1833, He married LOUISA JANE BICKING(S) October 30, 1856 in Upper Oxford Twp, Chester Co PA, daughter of DAVID BICKING(S) and MARGE _____. He served in the Pennsylvania Militia from July 1, 1863 until August 13, 1863. He was a private of Captain David Cochran's Company C, 43rd Regiment of PA Militia. His discharge papers state that he was born in Chester County and was a Millwright by trade. He stood 5 feet 8 1/2 inches high, with dark complexion, blue eyes, and dark hair. William died of consumption April 7, 1874, aged 41 years, and is buried at Homeville Friends Meeting Cemetery. Louisa is buried at Fernwood Cemetery in Philadelphia, PA.

2. CALVIN HUSTON BROOMELL (WILLIAM PENN 1) was born September 26, 1857, and died October 21, 1932. He married MARY AMARILLA RHODES May 7, 1885. She was born March 2, 1864 in Harrisburg, Dauphin Co. PA, daughter of JOHN RHOADS and ELIZABETH CUMMINGS. MARY was christened August 25, 1867 in Ridge Avenue Methodist Church, Harrisburg. Both CALVIN and MARY are buried at Fernwood Cemetery in Philadelphia, PA.

11. ALICE BICKING BROOMELL. (CALVIN HUSTON 2, WILLIAM PENN 1) b. August 28, 1903; d. March 25, 2005, Philadelphia. Married November 21, 1923 to CLYDE HOCKLEY SMITH WHITE SR. born November 12, 1902 Buffalo New York; died June 15, 1993, Buffalo, New York. Both Alice and Clyde are buried in Ardsley Cemetery, Ardsley, PA. Two sons, both living.

12. HOWARD CRAIG BROOMELL (CALVIN HUSTON 2, WILLIAM PENN 1) was born January 18, 1905, and died March 15, 1964.; buried at Fernwood Cemetery, Philadelphia PA. He married (1) FLORENCE CAMPBELL June 2, 1932. Issue. He married (2) LENA LAIRD MCNICHOL July 1, 1950.
